Post-Surgery Recovery

Your Strongest Recovery Starts Here: Post-Surgical Physiotherapy

Having surgery is often just the first step on the road to recovery. The success of your operation—and how well you return to your daily activities—is heavily dependent on the quality of your rehabilitation afterwards.

Post-surgical physiotherapy is a structured, progressive program designed to safely guide you from the initial recovery phase back to full function. At Velca, we work closely with you and your surgeon to ensure you achieve the best possible outcome from your procedure. Out physiotherapists are Careway accredited.

Why is Physiotherapy Essential After Surgery?

Following any orthopaedic surgery, such as a joint replacement, ACL reconstruction, or rotator cuff repair, the body responds with pain, swelling, and muscle weakness. Without proper guidance, this can lead to stiffness, poor movement patterns, and an incomplete recovery.

We provide expert rehabilitation for a wide range of procedures, including:

  • Total Knee and Hip Replacements

  • ACL, PCL and other knee ligament reconstructions

  • Rotator Cuff and other shoulder repairs

  • Spinal Surgery (e.g., Discectomy, Fusion)

  • Fracture repairs

Your Path to a Full Recovery

Your rehabilitation plan is never one-size-fits-all. It is tailored to your specific surgery, your surgeon's protocol, and your personal goals.

  • Pain and Swelling Management: In the early stages, we help you manage your discomfort and swelling using gentle movement, ice, and other techniques to promote healing.

  • Restoring Range of Motion: We guide you through safe and effective exercises and use hands-on therapy to prevent stiffness and progressively restore your joint's full mobility.

  • Rebuilding Strength: Surgery and inactivity lead to muscle wasting (atrophy). We design a carefully graded strengthening program to rebuild the muscles that support and control the surgical site.

  • Functional Retraining: Our ultimate goal is to get you back to doing what you love. We retrain your movement patterns for everyday tasks like walking, climbing stairs, and lifting, and guide your return to work, hobbies, and sport.
